Syndicate Hospitality Group is proud to announce that Masa Mama, our taqueria concept located in Calgary’s Marda Loop, has been named one of Avenue Magazine’s Best New Restaurants in Calgary for 2025.
Since opening in late 2024, Masa Mama Taqueria has brought a bold, playful, and deeply personal take on Mexican-inspired cuisine to Calgary’s dining scene. This recognition by Avenue Magazine reflects what our guests have embraced since day one — vibrant food, an energetic space, and a clear point of view rooted in both tradition and innovation.
The menu at Masa Mama is led by Chef Mikko Tamarra, whose work blends regional Mexican influences with thoughtful, modern technique. From house-made tortillas and rotating taco features to inventive small plates like the Adobo Calamari and Tuna Aguachile, the food at Masa Mama is designed to test the boundaries of traditional Mexican fare, and keep guests coming back. While rooted in street food culture, the restaurant doesn’t shy away from experimentation — including the occasional burger-inspired taco or unique takes on guacamole and chips.
The beverage program is equally considered, with fresh-pressed juices, agave-forward cocktails, and seasonal margaritas served alongside a curated list of Mexican beer and natural wines. The space itself reflects the same approach: colourful, inviting, and a little irreverent — just like the food.
We’re honoured to be recognized by Avenue and proud of the team who’ve brought this idea to life. Masa Mama was meant to be casual, but not careless. We wanted to offer something fun and unexpected in the East Village — and the response has been amazing.
